Good results with traditional Finnish Healing Method among young athletes

(Kalevalainen jäsenkorjaus)

15-year-old Iina Nieppola has been playing football already a decade at Jämsänkoski Ilves. During her childhood she was getting familiar with football and played a lot at her home lawn just for fun. But then during year 2016 her competitiveness, love for football and purposefulness gave a chance for her to play in a bigger city, Jyväskylä, and there at Jyväskylän Palloseura. Iina Nieppola was the youngest player in the team in B-league and everybody fighted for their playing spots. Unfortunately, sports has its side effects too. Injuries are very common in football. Iina is familiar with ankle injuries, bursts, back and hip pain, strain injuries…you name it. As a small player she has really pushed her limits, because she wanted to shine and be a good player. Stretching and different types of body care ways has always been in her daily base practices, but still. Ankle’s strain injury was the worst, because it caused a lot of pain and soreness. Selecting really carefully special shoe soles and soccer shoes plus added to resting enough helped. During her teenage time growth spurt, increased training and game times also caused pain in hip area. For this type of pain Iina has received very good help from Traditional Finnish Healing Method. The treatment has always fixed her body’s error positions and tensions. In addition, the method has also helped the whole family. When it’s done regularly, it enables practicing in high level and Iina really enjoys playing football. Iina describes herself, that she feels light and relaxed after the treatment. Tired but happy. And if some pain before the treatment occurs, after treatment they have disappeared.

As my final assignment year 2015 I wrote about Traditional Finnish Healing Method. The topic was young people’s the most common injuries in football and how Traditional Finnish Healing Method could help? Football requires many different skills. Professional football players are running during one match about 13kms and juniors appr. 7-10kms. There are some calculations, which are shown that the average of fast spurts is 70. Football is a fast tempo sports with multiple change of directions and stops, not to mentioned contacts with other players.

Though football can be considered as contact sports, luckily we see very rarely any serious injuries among young players. This is due to the flexibility of youngsters. Bones are also having more flexibility and integrating better than adults’ ones.

There are some researchers, that 60% of football injuries are caused by contacts or conflict situations during the games. 80% are focused on lower limbs and described as mild contusions or strains. Every fifth injury is happening below knee or to ankle area. Different types of structural failures, posture errors, muscle tensions, lower limb’s dimensional differences and foots’ structural errors are causing strain injuries and predispose also to acute injuries. Without treatment previous injuries are increasing the risk of future injuries.

Apohystis calcanearis, Severin disease, the pain area is in ossification area, near by Achilles tendon’s anchorage point. The pain is due to tendons and muscles traction, which is loading pressure on growth area. 10-15% of young athletes are suffering from this disease. Pain is coming out during sports and getting worse all the time. Typical symptom is, that when an athlete starts to move, ankle gets really sore after a short break. Symptoms are coming gradually and they might last even 2-6 months.

Preventing injuries and strain injuries pay attention to several other important points. Sufficient amount of sleep, body’s and mind’s regression, regular rhythm of life and balanced, healthy diet are in the core of athletes life. Treating and taking care of children’s and teenagers’ injuries is very important, because kids are growing steadily. In addition, taking care of joints and vertebras or preventing error postures of them, gaining more muscle and nerve balance makes young athletes’ life far more easier.

I have had a great priviledge to be Iina’s personal carer already for four years and it’s always a pleasure to see, when I can treat a child or a teenager in such a shape, that they can do sports again, without pain. From the carers’ perspective this is one of the most rewarding feeling from this work.
